Q. Will the InuYasha second TV series be produced?

A.  Kouji Tsujitani, a voice actor for Miroku, answered this question at his website on the 9th of November 2004. According to him, the second series seems to be produced in the near future.

Q. 143 It is very sad that InuYasha TV series has ended. I was wondering if the second series would be scheduled to air?
A. It seems to me that the production side (Translation's note: Yomiuri TV, SUNRISE, Shogakukan) bears the second series in mind though it has not been confirmed at all. I guess, for example, it does when the story in the manga series goes up to that the perspective of the end of the manga series becomes clear. It may take two or three years. I think that it depends on a situation at that time. Obviously, there is also a possibility that the second series isn't made. I can't say for sure at present. Please wait patiently.

But Toshiya Shinohara, director of the InuYasha movie series, wrote in his diary on the 20th of January 2006 that Tomoyuki Saitou, a Yomiuri TV producer, who worked as an assistant producer for the InuYasha TV & movie series, said to him that the further development of the InuYasha series still remained fluid. This means that the second series cannot run soon.

Q. What do the directors and other staffers produce after the end of InuYasha TV series?

A. Yasunao Aoki ,the second director, and the main staffers of InuYasha TV series have produced the Yakitake Japan TV series since October 2004. Masashi Ikeda, the first director, has been working on the CLUSTER EDGE TV series since October 2005. Both the series are scheduled to end in March 2006.

Q. Why are characters in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd movies drawn differently from those in the TV series?

A. When an anime is produced, an animator called Character Designer or Character Design designs anime-style shapes of characters to form a draft. Animators draw and paint the characters with following the draft in order to prevent the character drawing from getting changed in the one anime series. If a character designer changes, even though an anime is based on the same manga (comics), the character drawing becomes distinct. As for InuYasha, The character designer differs between the TV series and the 4th movie, and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd: the former is Yoshihito Hishinuma; the latter is Hideyuki Motohashi. Hishinuma drafted the characters on the basis of drawings around Manga volume 10, and Motohashi designed them in reference to ones around Manga volume 20. The reason why the movie producers and director made a decision to select the different character designer has been unexplained. But considering that the character drawing in the movies is more closely to the manga than that in the TV series, it is due probably to that the producers and the director of the movies tried to make the mood of the movies changed from that of the TV series.

Q. When does InuYasha Manga series complete?

A. According to Takahashi's comment in Shonen Sunday #15, 2005 which corresponds to Chapter 400, it is found that the series continues longer than the webmaster's expectation that the series would complete by Chapter 430. But the webmaster is sure that the story is coming close to the end. The webmaster now estimates that it would complete around early 2007.

連載400回をむかえて 高橋留美子先生
「皆様の応援のおかげで400回をむかえることができました。気がつけば一番長い連載ですが、まだまだ描かなければならないエピソードがたくさんあります。とりあえず連載500回を目指してがんばります!」
Thanks to readers' encouragements, I am able to reach up to the 400th. I find that InuYasha gets into the longest series of my works. But I still have many more stories that I want to create. For now, I will keep working so that I can achieve the 500th!

Q. Does the word Yasha in InuYasha mean Girl Daemon?

A. No. Yasha means both male and female daemons. Moreover, Yasha has in general been regarded and sculptured as the male in Japan. Yasha is derived from Yaksha (masculine noun) in Sanskrit; its feminine noun is Yakshini. Originally in Buddhism, Yashas were pagan flying devils, some of which were converted into Buddhism to become daemons that have guarded Buddha. But In Japan since the feudal era, Yasha has meant a man-eating devil as well. Takahashi, the creator of InuYasha series, probably named the half demon after the latter sense.

Q. Why has the brightness of the anime images become higher since around Episode 100?

A. At Episode 99, in processing films, SUNRISE stopped utilizing celluloid sheets (cells) on which images had been drawn and painted by hand, and started to operate the images only on computers. When many cells overlap with one another, the brightness gets reduced owing to decrease in an intensity of the transmitted light. But by using this new method, they has been able to avoid the deterioration of the images to improve the quality of the the latter episodes.
